Congratulations Benton Robotics Teams!
The Benton Robotics team has returned from an incredible trip to the World Championships. The students could not have represented Benton, PWCS and Virginia more admirably.  We met and competed against teams from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bahrain and almost all 50 states. Overall there were 37 countries represented including one made up of refugees from Syria. One of the students came up to me and said “scouting at Worlds is hard” and I asked why and his response was “so many teams don’t speak any English!” Overcoming the language barrier is just one of many obstacles the teams faced this past week.  We even helped set a new World Record for the largest robotics competition ever held.
Our teams from Benton shined bright all week. I am very pleased to report that both teams won coveted awards this week.
The Astrobotz (team 1231A) won the Design Award. This is the second highest judged award that is given out at a tournament. Over the course of the year this team created an engineering notebook that is now technically the best in the World for middle school. The hours they have spent documenting their design process, build, project schedule, programming and calculations (how many 7th graders do you know go home and learn physics so they can calculate the trajectory of a ball at a given angle and velocity?), it is something to behold.
Members of the Astrobotz are:

Eleanor Sigrest
Michael Cinnamon
Catie Granum
Allie Huszcza
Tiffany Jensen
Shan Lateef
The Dominators (team 1231D) won the Judges Award
. The Judges award is presented to a team that the judges determine is deserving of special recognition. They consider a number of possible criteria for this award, such as team displays of special attributes, exemplary effort and perseverance at the event, that may not fit under existing awards, but are nonetheless deserving of special recognition. The Dominators did a remarkable job this week both on and off the fields.
Members of the Dominators are:
Jonathan Rivera
Mason Simms
Troy Meink
Kyle Easton
Solomon Ralston
