TDAP Immunization
Attention Parents of Rising 6th Graders:

We have just received notification from the Virginia Department of Health that as of July 1, 2014, ALL children entering 6th grade MUST have the Tdap Immunization.  Previously, if your child did not turn 11 until after school started, it was permissible to get a doctor's note indicating the child would get the shot when they turned 11.  However, the state no longer accepts this.
**Make your appointment early...the doctors' offices get very busy at the end of the summer.
**When your child gets the shot, please bring the immunization documentation to school.
If a child does not have the immunization by September 2, 2014, the child will not be allowed to start school.  There will be no exceptions.
If you have any questions, please call Esther Krukar, School Nurse, at 703-791-0727.
Attendance Information
To Fax notes from parent/guardian that are signed and dated, along with reason for absence:
Fax: 703-791-0977
Phone calls are not accepted for absences.
Listed below is information explaining the procedures for students that are absent from school. Absences are classified as excused or unexcused. An explanation of the types of absences is listed in the Prince William County Public Schools Code of Behavior.
When a student is absent from school:
Notes from parents/guardians explaining reason for absences are required for every absence. Excuse notes must be submitted to the Attendance Secretary within two (2) days of the absence. The note must contain the full name of the student, the reason for the absence, date(s) of absence, parent/guardian’s signature, and phone number. Once the note is received the unverified absence will be changed accordingly. Parents/guardians do not need to call the attendance office for absence.
When a student arrives late to school:
Parents/guardians do not need to call the front/main office for a student arriving late to school. A note as listed above must accompany the student for any excused tardy. When a note is presented by the student, and signed by the parent, the parent does not need to accompany the student into the school. The parent must accompany the student if there is no written note received for the tardy to be excused.
When a student needs to leave school early:
A written note signed by the parent/guardian must be presented to the front office. The note must contain the following information: the full name of the student, the date and time of the dismissal, the reason for the dismissal, and a parent/guardian’s signature and phone number. Student will be called to the front office once parent has signed student out and presented photo ID. Reminder THERE WILL BE NO EARLY DISMISSALS AFTER 2:30 PM.
When a student needs to ride a different bus:
When a student needs to ride a different bus, a written note must be given to the attendance office before school. The note must include the student’s name, the bus number they will be riding, and the name of the student they are riding with, along with a parent/guardian signature.
Pre-arranged Absences:
Trips taken by an entire family will be excused if the trip is construed to be of educational value. Such trips must be approved by Mr. Smith, Principal, prior to the trip. Teachers’ discretion will determine the students’ make-up work for approved trips. Students will not be exempt from marking period tests or semester examinations. Please see Regulation 724-1 if you have any questions concerning approved absences.
After School Pick-Up Procedures
For your child’s safety please utilize the pick up space in the car loop directly across from the school to pick up your child. Please remember there should not be any parking in the yellow marked areas as those are designated as fire lanes and it is a violation of Virginia State Law. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
